LPPOM MUI: The Halal Mixue Certification Process Is Already Above 70 Percent
JAKARTA - The President Director of the Institute for the Study of Food, Medicine and Cosmetics, the Indonesian Ulema Council (LPPOM MUI), Muti Arintawati, said that the certification process for ice cream and tea products, Mixue, has been running above 70 percent."Now the audit process is already running at the end, already above 70 percent. It's just a process of completing and improving," said Muti in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, January 17.This statement was made by Muti in response to complaints about the Mixue outlets installing the Halal Indonesia logo, even though the certification process is still ongoing.Mu'ti emphasized that companies that do not yet have a halal certificate cannot include a halal logo in their packaging or shop. Installation of the halal logo can unilaterally mislead consumers. He stated that when he received a public complaint, LPPOM MUI immediately checked and asked for clarification from the party being complained about. MUI and the Halal Product Guarantee Administration Agency (BPJPH) immediately reprimanded the Mixue owner not to put up the halal logo until the certification process was completed."Yesterday, an administrative warning was given for displaying the halal logo," he said.According to him, halal certification for business products is very important. Currently, he said, the sanctions given are only in the form of warnings, but in 2024 the sanctions will be adjusted according to the rules of the BPJPH Ministry of Religion."Later in 2024 it is mandatory, it really must be enforced. There will definitely be a law enforcement process like what. So it's not just administrative sanctions," he said.Throughout 2022, LPPOM MUI received applications for halal examination from 15,273 business actors, an increase of 48 percent from the previous year. This figure is up 48 percent from 2021, which amounts to 10,337 business actors. Meanwhile, the number of applications in 2022 reached 15,333 and the total product was 297,308.
