KPA: 346 Thousand Families in 34 Provinces Affected by 212 Agrarian Conflicts Throughout 2022
JAKARTA - The Secretary General of the Consortium for Agrarian Reform (KPA), Dewi Kartika, noted that there were around 212 agrarian conflicts that occurred in all Indonesian provinces throughout 2022. Although the numbers were not significant compared to the previous year, the trend of agrarian conflicts that occurred continued to increase.
"We recorded 212 conflict eruptions in 34 provinces throughout 2022. This has increased, even though it is not significant, but the trend continues to increase", Dewi said in her 2022 end note with the theme 'Ears of Agrarian Conflict: PTPN Untouched, Criminalization Increases' in Kemang area, South Jakarta, Monday, January 9.
When compared to 2021, the area affected by agrarian conflicts has also increased dramatically. Throughout 2022, hundreds of agrarian conflict eruptions will occur over a land area of more than one hectare.
"We also see that in terms of the area affected by the agrarian conflict, it has increased drastically. In terms of the area it has reached 1 million hectares, even more", said Dewi.

She also added the number of people affected by the Agaria conflict throughout 2022 continued to increase. In total there are 346 thousand families affected by the eruption of conflict in 34 provinces in Indonesia.
"We can imagine if one family consists of three to four people, meaning that many souls are affected by structural agrarian conflicts, and 212 of these agrarian conflicts occurred in 459 villages, and some also occurred in urban areas", said Dewi.
For your information, in 2021, KPA will also release a year-end note with the theme "National Scale Evictions". This theme relates to reports on conflict situations and agrarian policies in the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On that note, 207 eruptions of agrarian conflicts were structural in nature. The hundreds of conflicts took place in 32 provinces and spread across 507 villages and cities, and affected 198,895 households (KK) with a conflicted land area of 500,062.58 hectares.
