FTI Holds The National Selection Of Indonesian Triathlon Athletes For The Cambodian SEA Games

The Indonesian Triathlon Federation (FTI) held a national selection (selection) of athletes who will represent Indonesia at the XXXII/2023 SEA Games at Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

A total of 35 athletes consisting of 21 men and 14 female athletes from 19 provinces in the country compete to be included in the national training camp squad (pelatnas) at Lab. Anti-Doping, Surabaya State University (Unesa), Lidah Wetan Campus, Surabaya, 27-29 December.

The manager of the Indonesian Triatlon National Team, Dika Chrisna Irzandi, said that the national selection method for sports that combines three branches, namely running, swimming, and cycling, is different from before.

"Normally, swimming on the beach or in lakes, bicycles and running on the streets. Now swimming in pools and bicycles using tools in the indoor area, and running are still on the road (Unesa area)," said Dika, quoting Antara, Thursday.

Unesa's selection as a national selection location has gone through various considerations, one of which is complete and supporting facilities. In addition, it also has sports science support which is very important in the selection process and improved athlete performance.

Later, athletes who pass the national selection will start undergoing the national training which is planned to start in early 2023.

FTI will face at least three big agendas in 2023. Apart from the Cambodian SEA Games, there will be ANOC World Beach Games II/2023 in Bali, and the XIX/2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China which will take place next year.

"The plan is early next year to prepare for the SEA Games, Asian Games, and World Beach Games in Bali," said Dika.

At the XXXI/2021 SEA Games in Vietnam which will take place this year, Indonesia will return with two silver and three bronze.

Two silvers each through Inge Prasetyo in the women's individual triathlon number and Rudi Febriade in the men's individual dwilomba number.

While the three bronzes were Ronald Setiawan Bintang (Men's Individual National Association), Jauhari Johan (men's individual two-thlon), and Zahra Putri in Aprillia (women's individual two-thlon), respectively.
