The House Of Representatives Has Approved The Law On The Indonesia-Singapore Agreement Related To The Extradition Of Fugitives

JAKARTA - The DPR approved the Draft Law (RUU) on Ratification of Agreements between Indonesia and Singapore related to the extradition of fugitives into law products. The ratification was made at a plenary meeting, Tuesday, December 15.

"Following up the Bamus consultation meeting, then on December 5, 2022 Commission III of the DPR RI held a working meeting with the Minister of Law and Human Rights and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to hear the Indonesian President's statement to the bill regarding the ratification of the agreement between the governments of the Republic of Indonesia and the Republic of Singapore on the Extradition of Fugitives," said Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR Prince Khairul Saleh. "Commission III of the DPR approved the consideration of the legal basis for article by article. Furthermore, all factions have conveyed their views and approved the bill to be discussed at the next level," he continued. Commission III of the DPR, said Pangeran, it is important that this bill be ratified so that it is useful for the community. In particular, supports the effectiveness of the criminal justice law enforcement system. This bill also responds to the need for international cooperation in the field of law more comprehensively with other countries. Especially with the Singapore Republic which is useful for strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries that are mutually oriented and beneficial.," said Pangeran.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, then asked the meeting participants for a decision. All members of the council gave their approval. "We ask each faction whether the Bill on Ratification of Agreements between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Republic of Singapore on the Extradition of Fugitives can be approved?" Puan asked while tapping the hammer of approval. Menkumham Yasonna Laoly also expressed his gratitude for the plenary approval of the DPR RI regarding the ratification of the bill into law. "The President stated that he agreed with the Bill on Ratification of Agreements between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Republic of Singapore concerning the Extradition of Fugitives to be ratified into law. We express our gratitude to the leadership and members of the DPR RI who are full of dedication and hard work so that the completion of this law can be carried out specifically with our partners Commission III of the DPR," said Yasonna.
