Confeded In Indonesian Waters, 13 Dark Immigrants Destined For Australia Were Secured
NTT - Rote Ndao Police officers arrested 13 illegal immigrants in Dodaek village, South Rote District, Rote Ndao Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Wednesday night, December 14.
Deputy Head of Rote Ndao Police Commissioner I Nyoman Surya Wiryawan said the 13 immigrants suspected of being Iraqi citizens were arrested while sailing to Australia.
"However, the ship they were traveling in was stranded at the zero point in Indonesia," Surya said when contacted Thursday, December 15 morning, while being confiscated by Antara.
Based on preliminary information, he explained that dozens of illegal immigrants were stranded in the waters of Southwest Rote. However, after being checked again, the ship was carried away by the current to South Rote.
"After being found, the immigrants were then taken to the Rote Ndao Police Headquarters for further processing," he added.
In addition to arresting and rescuing the 13 immigrants, the Rote Ndao Police also arrested three Indonesian crew members (ABK) who brought the dozens of immigrants.
The three crew members, respectively named Isro Pello, Aris Djawa, and Rayan Hidayat Gafur, came from Papela Village. They are currently still being detained and are in the process of being investigated.
Surya said the Rote Ndao Police had coordinated with the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of NTT regarding the discovery of the dozens of immigrants. Furthermore, they will be handed over to the immigration authorities in Kupang.
