Mitigation Of Building Damage From The Impact Of The Earthquake, Sucofindo Offers Building Inspection Services

JAKARTA The state-owned company (BUMN) for the construction sector of PT Sucofindo is ready to ensure that the construction of buildings is in accordance with applicable standards.

President Director of Sucofindo Mas Wigrantoro said that this commitment continued to be strong amid the increasing frequent earthquake disasters which had a significant impact on financial and non-financial losses.

"We support the realization of building resilience through the implementation of building assessment services. This is a mitigation of post-earthquake damage," he said in a written statement quoted on Sunday, December 4.

According to Wigrantoro, the post-earthquake building conditions can experience a decline in reliability, including aspects of the quality of building materials consisting of concrete and steel, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.

"The earthquake also affects the condition of building elements such as columns and blocks, as well as affects changes in the characteristics of the soil and the geometry of the building," he said.

Therefore, to be consistent in implementing aspects of building safety, comfort, and security, it is necessary to build an assessment.

He revealed that the building assessment service is an inspection and assessment of the condition of the existing building structure which focuses on the analysis of reliability or the strength of the post-earthquake structure.

"This is in accordance with SNI ISO 1726:2012 (regarding earthquake resistance) and in accordance with Law no. 28 of 2002 (Article 7) concerning Buildings," he said.

On the same occasion, Head of Strategic Business Unit Sucofindo Herdi Purwanto said that the building assessment service can detect the feasibility of a building, column and beam strengthening, as well as other technical matters.

"So the results of the building assessment can be seen in the picture of the conditions of the existing building, along with design recommendations for changes or improvements to the structure," he added.

To maintain building resilience, he continued, Sucofindo is able to serve building check-ups, building structure analysis, and consulting services for obtaining a Functional Feasibility Certificate (SLF) as stipulated in the Minister of PUPR Regulation.

Herdi added that the construction services offered by the company are equipped with the latest testing methods, namely using Non Destructive Test (NDT) or non-destructive tests.

"In addition, for high-rise building inspections that are difficult to reach and have high risk, we use the latest technology, namely using an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or drone," he concluded.
