Komnas HAM Asks Jokowi To Take Concrete Actions On The Handling Of Human Rights Violations

JAKARTA - The commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) said that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) 's statement regarding the settlement of cases of gross human rights violations in the past in the hands of the Attorney General was correct. However, Komnas HAM hopes that the statement is aligned with real execution.

"If Pak Jokowi says his commitment is with the prosecutor's office, Pak Jokowi is correct because it is not at Komnas HAM," Choirul told reporters at the Komnas HAM office, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Monday, December 14.

"It's a clear stament and hopefully this is not just a stament," he added.

Choirul assessed that the follow up of the investigation of past human rights violations needs to be done immediately. In view of this, the documents related to this matter have been submitted to the Attorney General's Office by Komnas HAM.

He also said that substantially the Attorney General is the party who has to decide the problem of human rights violations that occur in Indonesia.

He also said that it was time for the Attorney General to take further steps so that all cases of human rights violations could be brought to justice.

"It is useless to turn it back to Komnas HAM because it is substantially JA, just taking a little step, the case has already entered the human rights court," he said.

Choirul then explained that his party had submitted 12 files related to human rights violations to the Attorney General's Office. In fact, several files that had previously been returned by the Attorney General's Office have been handed back.

"All the case files are at the AGO. There are those who say 12, some say 13, depending on whether Wasior Wamena was separated or merged, ”he explained.

As previously reported, President Jokowi reminded the Attorney General's Office to have an important role in solving cases of gross human rights violations in the past. So that he asked, the commitment to solve this problem must be continued.

"The commitment to resolve past human rights issues must be continued. The AGO is a key actor in resolving past human rights violations," said Jokowi when he opened the Prosecutor's Meeting which was held online and broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat YouTube account, Monday, December 14.

Jokowi also asked the prosecutor's office to show progress in the process of resolving cases of past human rights violations.

In addition, he asked the Adhyaksa Corps to continue to make effective cooperation with other parties, including the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM).

"Cooperation with related parties, especially with Komnas HAM, needs to be streamlined. Anticipation of future challenges must also be improved," said Jokowi.
