In COP 27, Indonesia's Steps In Reducing Carbon Emissions Can Be Appreciated

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan emphasized to the eyes of the world that Indonesia is committed to actively reducing carbon emissions. One of the real steps is that the government is ready to retire the PLTU at the peak event of the G20 Summit in Bali, next week.Luhut explained that in an effort to reduce carbon emissions, collaboration is needed. Through collaboration in reducing carbon emissions, it can be beneficial for the future."On this auspicious occasion at COP 27, I invite everyone to be able to attend the peak of the G20 Summit, the Presidential Summit in Bali. We will announce one of our successful steps in stopping coal generation operations and changing them to EBT-based plants," Luhut said at the COP 27 meeting., Tuesday 8 November.Luhut assessed that in order to accelerate the NZE target, system acceleration is needed and also enrich the framework in the energy transition.PLN will retire its PLTU in stages. This requires joint work because to run this project requires a large amount of investment."We are very open to collaboration with partners and neighboring countries. We will explain our success story with Japan to be able to reduce global emissions," said Luhut.PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo explained that retiring PLTU is PLN's initiative in accelerating the achievement of the NZE target in 2060. PLN will retire 6.7 Giga Watt (GW) of PLTU in 2040 and a total of 16 GW until 2060."As part of NZE 2060's commitment, PLN is committed to stopping PLTU at its economic age, not extending it. And we are even accelerating this retirement as proof of our commitment to pursuing NZE's targets," said Darmawan.PLN's Director of Transmission and System Planning Evy Haryadi explained that the process of retiring PLTU still takes time. For this reason, PLN does not remain silent, PLN continues to strive to reduce carbon emissions through increased co-firing technology, or Carbon Capture Storage (CCS)."We continue to be open in the collaborative action on the technology side so that we can accelerate NZE's target. Through this plan, we in parallel also accelerate the construction of EBT plants so that they can meet the electricity needs of the community," said Evy.
