YouTube Gaming Reaches 100 Billion Views During 2020
JAKARTA - The world of games is indeed the most popular today, apart from a hobby, games are also an entertainment option in the middle of a busy life or just to unwind.
Some gamers also make games their income field, by creating content on YouTube. No doubt, the 2020 statistics report shows YouTube Gaming has a staggering number of watch hours.
Chief of YouTube Gaming, Ryan Wyatt said that platform users watched 100 billion hours of game content in the last year. This number has doubled from the watch hours in 2018 ago.
The company explains that out of 100 billion, around 10 billion hours are live streamed on YouTube Gaming. This is a strong sign that Google's platform is a strong competitor to Amazon's Twitch.
Wyatt also shared some other interesting statistics. Like the Minecraft video it turns out to be the most watched game on YouTube. There are over 200 billion views of Minecraft live streams and uploaded videos.
"Creators have seen a huge increase in subscribers, viewers and viewers throughout 2020. One of the most remarkable growths is Minecraft creator Dream, which saw a surge in subscribers from 1 million in January 2020 to 13 million in October," said YouTube as quoted from The Verge, Wednesday, December 9.
Apart from that, the next most watched game lineup is Roblox with 75 billion views. The other top five positions are completed by Garena Free Fire with 72 billion viewers, Grand Theft Auto V with 70 billion views, and Fortnite with 67 billion.
On the other hand, YouTube also states that there are currently more than 40 million active gaming channels. Of that number, around 80,000 of them already had 100,000 subscribers last year.
At least, there are 1,000 channels solving 5 million subscribers by 2020, and more than 350 channels reaching 10 million subscribers.
Likely, this specific increase is due to the corona virus pandemic, where people are required to stay at home, and they are of course looking for entertainment through platforms such as YouTube and YouTube Gaming.
