The UN Human Rights Office Of The Iranian Treatment Criticism Against Vulnerable And Detained Protesters
JAKARTA - The United Nations human rights office on Friday said authorities refused to release some of the bodies of those killed in Iran's protests. The agency also voiced concern about Tehran's treatment of detained protesters.
"We have seen a lot of bad treatment, as well as abuse against the families of protesters," Ravina Shamdasani, from the Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights, said in Geneva, Switzerland," reported The National News from several sources October 28.
"What is of particular concern is the information that the authorities have transferred injured protesters from hospitals to detention facilities, refusing to release the bodies of those killed to their families," he said.
Shamdasani added that authorities in some cases put conditions on the release of bodies, asking families not to hold funerals or talk to the media.
"Some of the detained protesters were also denied their medical treatment," he said.
It is known that the leader of Iranian clerics has faced national demonstrations since the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish woman in moral police custody on September 16.
Rights groups say at least 250 protesters have been killed and thousands arrested.
