Canelo Canclusived WBC? The Presidenties

JAKARTA - Mauricio Sulaimán often defended Canelo Alvarez. In fact, when the Mexican lost to Dmitry Bivol a few months ago.

However, now, things have changed a bit. The President of the World Boxing Council (WBC) assured that in the organization he leads there is no favoritism towards one of the boxers.

In recent days, there have been many controversies caused by Canelo's refusal to fight David Benavidez. And Sulaiman immediately dismissed the notion that WBC privileged Canelo.

"Benavidez has benefited from a temporary title, with the understanding that Canelo will be in several fights this year," he said at a conference at the WBC headquarters, quoted by Marca, Thursday.

Sulaimán then clarified that Canelo's type of "favoritism" in WBC was based on special treatment for his great career in professional boxing.

However, he ruled out that it was an exclusivity for Canelo, as he recalled what happened to all the great champions in the council's history.

"It is clear that Canelo has received special treatment for its extraordinary trajectory, such as Mayweather, such as (Julio César) Chavez, like Muhammad Ali, without breaking the rules. Now let's see what's next in the division," he explained.
