CSIS Survey: The Majority Young Voters Want A Honest And Not Corruption Leader In 2024

JAKARTA - In a survey related to the character of the 2024 leader, the majority of young voters aged 17-39 years wanted Indonesia to be led by honest and not corrupt people.

The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) released the results of a national survey entitled "Young Voters and the 2024 Election: Dynamics and Social Preferences Post-pandemic" today, Monday, September 26. Head of the Department of Political and Social Change of CSIS, Arya Fernandez, said there has been a change in people's preference for national leadership in the next two years compared to the previous two. In which the 2014 and 2019 elections, the younger population wants a populist and simple leader. "We ask what kind of character is most needed to lead Indonesia in the future. Now there is a change, ahead of 2024 most of our young voters want a character of honest and non-corruption leader by 34.8 percent," said Arya Fernandez in an online survey release, Monday, September 26. Only after that, voters wanted a popular and simple leader of 15.9 percent, firm and authoritative 12.4 percent, achievement/kinerja 11.6 percent, experience leading 10.1 percent, ability to lead 6.7 percent, obey religion 4.1 percent, be smart and smart 3.6 percent, others 0.3 percent and don't know or don't answer 0.5 percent. "So people need a leader who is honest, with integrity, and clean from corruption. This is what our young people want in the future," Arya continued.

The survey was conducted in the period 8-13 August 2022 with a survey population of Indonesians aged 17-39 years through face-to-face interviews. The survey used a multistage random sampling survey method with a margin of error +/-2.84 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.
