KM Sabuk Nusantara 91 Burns in Masalembo Sumenep, One Person Dies

SUMENEP - The Sabuk Nusantara 91 Motor Ship (KM) caught fire at the Masalembo Port, Sumenep, East Java. One person died in the incident.

"There was indeed a ship fire accident, at around 06.00 WIB when the ship docked at Masalembo Port", said Head of Public Relations of the Sumenep Police, AKP Widiarti, as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, September 16.

The victim who died was reportedly named Novi Albert Lombogia (56) from Surabaya. He is a canteen keeper at (KM) Sabuk Nusantara 91.

Three other people reported experiencing shortness of breath. The three named Pujiawati (46) from Masalembo, Daniel (55) from Surabaya, and Norbiya (57) from Sumenep.

Widiarti explained that at the time of the incident, the number of passengers on the Nusantara 91 Belt Ship was 20 people.

"They want to continue their journey to Karamean Island. Because when they are in Masalembu, they only lean for a moment, then continue their journey to their final destination on Karamean Island", she said.

Widiarti said all passengers had been evacuated by officers, while passengers who died and experienced shortness of breath and were injured had been referred to the nearest public health center (Puskesmas).

The cause of the ship's fire is not yet known, but the Head of Syahbandar Masalembo Rahmat Rahim explained that the source of the fire started from the room on deck 1 on the right.

"After checking, it turned out that the fire had grown. We are still investigating further the cause of the fire", she said.
