Former Mayor Of Bekasi Rahmat Effendi Demandd 9.5 Years In Prison And Revocation Of Political Rights
JAKARTA - Prosecutors from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) have demanded that former Bekasi Mayor Rahmat Effendi be sentenced to nine years and six months in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion due to corruption cases in the procurement of goods and services as well as the auction of positions within the Bekasi City Government. Article 12 letter b, Article 12 letter f, Article 12 of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning the eradication of corruption as amended by UURI Number 20 of 2001 in conjunction with Article 65 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code. The prosecutor also conveyed aggravating things for Rahmat Effendi's sentence, namely not supporting government programs in an effort to eradicate corruption as state administrators.
Meanwhile, the mitigating factor was that Rahmat Effendi was polite during the trial and had never been convicted. In addition, the prosecutor also demanded that Rahmat pay a replacement money of more than Rp. 8 billion. With the provision that if he does not pay, according to him, his property will be confiscated to be auctioned off in order to fulfill the replacement money. "If the auction is not sufficient, then he will be jailed for two years," he said. Then the prosecutor also demanded the panel of judges to revoke the political right to be elected as public official Rahmat Effendi for five years. "Calculated since the defendant served his main sentence," said the prosecutor.
Meanwhile, Rahmat Effendi's legal team asked for two weeks to prepare a memorandum of defense that would be submitted before reading the verdict from the panel of judges.
Previously, Rahmat Effendi was charged with accepting a bribe of Rp. 10 billion from a conspiracy in land acquisition in the throughout Jaya Village for the benefit of water polder development. In addition, Rahmat was also charged with receiving Rp. 7.1 billion from deposits from officials and ASN within the Bekasi City Government regarding the auction of positions.
