Zoom Launches New Feature to Compete With Other Video Conferencing Apps

JAKARTA - Zoom Video Communications Inc announced on Monday, September 12 that it has renamed its chat product and added several features, including third-party integration, as it looks set to compete with competitors including Microsoft Teams and Slack.

The Zoom app, now known as Zoom Team Chat, will also include features such as the ability to share chats in meetings to Team Chats, schedule meetings from chats or channels. This feature will be released at the end of this month.

Zoom was a little-known company before the pandemic hit in early 2020, but posted triple-digit revenue growth at the height of the crisis as people stuck at home used video conferencing to communicate.

The company, which competes with WeChat Work, Microsoft Teams, Cisco WebEx and Slack, faces the daunting task of recruiting high-paying clients to sustain its growth at a time when some companies are shifting to hybrid work.

Last month, Zoom cut its annual profit and revenue forecasts as demand cools from its highest level during the pandemic. Shares of Zoon, a darling of investors since the pandemic, rose 1% to $83.43. But now their shares are down 55% this year until the close of Friday last week.
