JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto led the Indonesian delegation in a ministerial meeting at the IPEF forum (Indo-Pacific Economic Framework) in Los Angeles, United States, September 8 to 9, 2022. On this agenda, Airlangga emphasized Indonesia's commitment to the importance of negotiations in international forums, especially when the world is faced with a very complex crisis. "Collaboration of all countries is needed in order to create mutualism symbiosis cooperation that supports economic growth and also cleaner economic sustainability (sustainable development)," he said in an official statement on Friday, September 9. According to Airlangga, Indonesia also encourages trade by eliminating trade restrictions and discrimination. "Indonesia hopes that the commitments generated in the IPEF forum will complement other commitments that have been made by the Government in multilateral forums. In addition, empowerment of local communities is also important to generate substantial contributions to the country's economy," he said.
On the same occasion, US Trade Minister Gina Raimondo said President Joe Biden had consulted with parliament and the private sector in order to immediately realize a framework for cooperation in the IPEF. "The IPEF cooperation framework balances flexibility and inclusiveness and produces things that provide tangible benefits for all," he said.
Similarly, United States Secretary of Trade of Representatives (USTR) rife Tai said that the United States is ready to help resolve regional problems to ensure future generations will get a better life. "The future of the 21st century economy is in the Indo Pacific region, and no country can face its own challenges, therefore close cooperation between countries is needed between countries in the global order, especially in this region," he said. To note, the IPEF is an initiative of the United States officially launched by President Biden on May 23, 2022 in Tokyo, Japan. At that time, the participation of the Indonesian government was reflected in the presence of the Minister of Trade virtually representing President Joko Widodo. There are 14 countries participating in the IPEF, namely the United States, Australia, Fiji, India, South Korea, South Korea, New Zealand, and ASEAN countries (Brunei Darussalam, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam).
