Truck Death Accident In Bekasi, KPAI: Kaji Back Distance Limit Between Schools And Highways

JAKARTA - Commissioner of the Child Protection Commission (KPAI) Jasra Putra asked all schools that stand on the side of the highway to increase layered security standards to maintain the safety of their students.

This refers to the deadly accident of a trailer truck that occurred on Jalan Sultan Agung KM 28.5, Kranji, Bekasi City. In this incident, as many as 10 victims died and 7 of them were students of SDN Kota Baru 02 and 03.

"So that the handling is firm and does not play games, because the lives of children and children have lost their parents, please consider it, so that it doesn't happen again. KPAI asks schools on the side of the highway that are actively being reviewed for layered security standards for children," said Jasra in his statement, Thursday, September 1.

In this incident, the Base Transceiver Station (BTS) pole collapsed due to being hit by a trailer truck. The BTS is located near the school separated by a small sidewalk. Jasra also asked that the location of the poles next door to the education center be reviewed.

"With no strict [distance] restrictions between schools and highways and attached BTS poles that stand in the school building. It needs to be reviewed whether existing security is standard," said Jasra.

Jasra said this incident left a deep sorrow because the victims were children. Moreover, this happens when elementary school children wait for transportation to return home, as well as when parents take their children and pick up their children at school.

"You can imagine, the hope of waiting for the child to come home from school is answered by the death of the disaster. Of course it will be a very deep sorrow. This kind of grief will certainly be prolonged, so it is important to be accompanied from the start," said Jasra.

"I think it takes a quick and direct decision at the location, in order to reduce deep fear for children who will still continue their education," he added.

For information, this accident occurred when the trailer truck hit the pole of the communication network and collapsed across the front of SDN Kota Baru 02 and 03, Jalan Sultan Agung, Bekasi, Wednesday, August 31 at around 10.30 WIB.

As a result of this incident, 10 people died, including 7 elementary school students. Then, as many as 20 people were injured. Currently, all the victims have been evacuated. They were taken to the hospital and Ananda Hospital.

Polda Metro Jaya has secured the truck driver for questioning regarding the chronology of the incident. The police are also still investigating the crime scene (TKP).

In the results of the temporary investigation, the accident is suspected not to have been caused by a failed brake because a former braking was found, but the condition of the driver who was sleepy. Until now, the police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
