IDR 16.2 Billion Loot From Juliari Batubara Case Deposited by KPK To The State

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has deposited looted money from the COVID-19 social assistance bribery case that ensnared former Minister of Social Affairs, Juliari P. Batubara. There is IDR 16.9 billion that has been deposited by the executing prosecutor.

"KPK Executing Prosecutor Rusdi Amin and Andry Prihandono have deposited looted money into the state treasury worth IDR 16.2 billion in the case of the convict Juliari P.

Ali said the deposit was made based on a court decision that has permanent legal force. The money that was seized and deposited was evidence found by the KPK.

The KPK, continued Ali, found the money during an arrest operation (OTT) and ensnared Matheus Joko Santoso, who is Juliari's subordinate. The KPK team found various foreign currency denominations.

"The looted money was previously evidence that was also secured by the KPK team when they arrested one of the convicts, namely Matheus Joko Santoso", he said.

"The evidence found at that time was in the form of cash in the form of rupiah denominations and foreign currencies in the form of United States dollars and Singapore dollars", Ali continued.

Furthermore, the KPK ensures that it will continue to make deposits to the state treasury. Ali said this was aimed at maximizing asset recovery or asset recovery.

"In the future, the KPK will continue to make deposits to the state treasury so that asset recovery can be maximized. Among them is through a collection of criminal penalties and replacement money as well as depositing evidence of money to the auction of looted goods", he said.

As a reminder, this social assistance bribery case was revealed after the KPK carried out a hand arrest operation (OTT) at the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos). Furthermore, from the operation, former Minister of Social Affairs Juliari Batubara was named a suspect.

In this case, Juliari was sentenced to 12 years in prison for being proven to have accepted bribes related to the procurement of COVID-19 social assistance in the Jabodetabek area in 2020 of up to IDR 14.7 billion.

Apart from Juliari, two of Juliari's former subordinates, namely the former Commitment Making Officer (PPK) of the Ministry of Social Affairs, namely Adi Wahyono and Matheus Joko Santoso are also involved in this case. Adi was found guilty and sentenced to 7 years in prison while Matheus was sentenced to 9 years in prison.
