Using Papuan Attributes, Berkarya Party Visits KPU To Register As Participants In The 2024 Election

JAKARTA - The DPP of the Beringin Karya (Berkarya) Party under the leadership of General Chairman Muchdi Purwoprandjono registered himself as a candidate for the 2024 General Election to the General Elections Commission (KPU).

"This morning, Friday, August 12, 2022, at approximately 09.40 minutes, I from the General Chair of the Berkarya Party have officially registered with the Indonesian KPU as a candidate for the 2024 General Election," Muchdi told reporters in front of the KPU Building, Central Jakarta, Friday 12 August.

Muchdi said that the Berkarya Party had completed as much as possible all the required documents for election participants as required by the KPU.

He said the Berkarya Party is targeting to exceed the parliamentary threshold or presidential threshold (PT), which is five percent or at least occupy 30 seats in the DPR RI.

"The target for the 2019 (Election) yesterday was 2,091 percent so that we could not enter parliament," said Muchdi.

However, regarding the Berkarya Party coalition, Muchdi did not give much comment.

"Later on, we won't necessarily be participants, right, what is clear is a coalition for the benefit of the Indonesian nation and state based on Pancasila and the 45 Constitution," he said, according to Antara.

He hopes that the Berkarya Party can pass the next administrative and factual verification stage to be able to advance as a participant in the 2024 General Election.

"Hopefully with the permission of God Almighty, we can qualify to be one of the participants in the 2024 General Election, as we were also participants in the 2019 Election," he said.

As for the representation and inclusion of Papuan customary attributes, Muchdi explained that in the last 2019 Election, the Berkarya Party's biggest gain came from the Papua Province.

"Yesterday we got three DPRD seats out of 55 seats, then 22 DPRD Level II. That's why I brought them (Papuans) as motivation for the cadres," he said.

A delegation from the Berkarya Party came to the KPU building at 09.00 WIB, and a number of representatives from the group wore Papuan traditional attributes.

The KPU has opened the registration of participants for the 2024 General Election from August 1 to 14, 2022. As of Thursday, August 12, there have been 23 political parties that have registered as participants in the 2024 General Election at the KPU.
