1,241,297 Livestock In Indonesia Have Been Injected With PMK Vaccines
JAKARTA - The Task Force for Handling Mouth and Nail Diseases (Satgas PMK) reported that 1,241,297 livestock in Indonesia had been vaccinated against PMK as of Thursday, August 11.
According to these data, livestock in 24 provinces and 285 districts/cities have been infected with FMD with a total of 479,631 heads. The types of livestock infected with FMD were cattle (456,974 heads), buffalo (17,334 heads), sheep (1,686 heads), goats (3,549 heads) and pigs (88 heads).
Meanwhile, there are 309,781 livestock that have recovered from PMK, and 153,808 animals have not recovered.
The livestock that died due to FMD were 6,249 heads with the deaths of cows (6,055 heads), buffalo (122 heads), sheep (27 heads), and goats (45 heads).
Then conditional slaughter has been carried out on 9,793 livestock animals.
Based on the Antara report, PMK first appeared in East Java which was confirmed on May 5, 2022.
Ways to prevent FMD include limiting animal movement, monitoring traffic and implementing surveillance, prohibiting the importation of livestock from other areas, strict quarantine, good maintenance management, improving sanitation, regularly disinfecting cages and their surroundings.
Previously, the Coordinator of the Expert Team for the FMD Handling Task Force Prof. Wiku Adisasmito said that the government was intensively conducting inspections to suppress the spread of FMD in livestock.
He added that the government also provides medicines and vitamins to treat the clinical symptoms that appear and increase the immunity and stamina of livestock as an effort to suppress the spread of FMD.
Another effort is to carry out conditional slaughter of livestock confirmed by PMK in accordance with government recommendations.
