Kaohsiung Ready To Build EV Industry Chain To Reach Bigger Global Market

JAKARTA - The more people are literate with electric vehicles, causing sales of electric vehicles (EV) to grow exponentially, as well as in the city of Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

In a recent report from Business Wire, the Kaohsiung government is working with Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) to work on aspects such as smart electric buses and smart city development.

As part of its ambition to expand into the EV industry, Foxconn plans to build an EV ecosystem and battery production chain in the southern city. This plan will start from EV development, then move on to battery and cell production, to energy storage systems.

The goal is to become an experimental field that attracts global manufacturers to invest in Kaohsiung and build a complete industrial chain for the EV industry.

Kaohsiung has attracted investment from companies such as WIN Semiconductors Corp., the world's leading manufacturer of power amplifiers and LiDAR technology for EVs, as well as lithium battery manufacturer, Molie Quantum Energy Corp., which is laying the groundwork for the EV industry chain.

The first Model T electric bus was officially delivered to Kaohsiung in March this year. The first deliveries are in line with the Kaohsiung city government's plans for electric public buses by 2030.

In line with the growth of the local EV industry, the City Government also plans to cooperate with the Ministry of Transportation and Communications to build a national-level test site for self-driving cars and Vehicle-to-Everything at Qiaotou Science Park.

In June this year, Foxconn announced that it would invest USD 6 billion (IDR 89 trillion) to build the Battery Cell Research & New Product Introduction Center at the Ho Fa Industrial Park. passengers, and energy storage systems in the first quarter of 2024.
