China Imposing Sanctions Against Nancy Pelosi, Ministry Of Foreign Affairs: Undermining Sovereignty, Tramples On The One China Policy
JAKARTA - The Chinese government has decided to impose sanctions on United States House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her family, as a result of her cruel and provocative actions, referring to a visit to Taiwan, the Foreign Ministry said Friday.
"Despite China's serious concerns and resolute opposition, Pelosi insists on visiting Taiwan, seriously interferes in China's internal affairs, undermines China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, tramples on the one-China policy, and threatens the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait," the spokesman said. the ministry in a statement, citing Reuters Aug. 5.
It is known, Pelosi is not the first official of Uncle Sam's country to be sanctioned. Beijing has previously imposed sanctions on a number of US officials in recent years, among other things for criticizing human rights issues in Hong Kong and Xinjiang, citing CNA.
In March this year, Beijing said it was imposing visa restrictions on an undisclosed list of US officials suspected of "fabricating lies about human rights issues involving China".
Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, as well as former President Donald Trump's trade adviser were among those hit by previous waves of sanctions, barred from entering China as well as doing business with Chinese entities.
Beijing's ruling Communist Party views democratic, self-governing Taiwan as part of its territory and has promised to one day take it, by force if necessary.
