Cannot Reach All Districts, Manokwari Proposes Garbage Transport Fleet
PAPUA - Head of the Land and Environment Agency of Manokwari Regency, Yonadab Sraun, said that the supporting facilities for transporting waste in Manokwari Regency were not sufficient to reach all districts.
He gave an illustration that currently there are only seven garbage trucks, 14 dump trucks, and 84 garbage bins in West Manokwari, East Manokwari, and South Manokwari Districts.
Yonadap said the agency had provided assistance with three-wheeled vehicles to support waste transportation operations in urban villages, including Wosi and Sanggeng villages.
"In these two urban villages there is a market. So where is the market (usually there is a lot of garbage). But I forget how many (waste transport vehicles were provided)," he said in Manokwari, West Papua Province, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, July 26.
According to him, the Department of Environment and Land of Manokwari Regency is applying for an additional fleet of garbage collectors and garbage bins.
"Why do we also propose garbage bins because some of them are already porous. If we look at this garbage, the acidity is high, so many trash bins are damaged," he said.
On Monday, July 25, the head of Padarni Village in the West Manokwari District, Paul Rumbruren, revealed that the sub-district needs additional garbage collection vehicles because the population is increasing.
"Our RT here is 26, but we (have to) divide the number of vehicles that are less than 10 to work to transport all the garbage," he added.
"That's why we need additional personnel so that it is not difficult for our personnel to enter, especially in densely populated areas," he continued.
According to him, the limited number of waste transport vehicles hampers efforts to handle waste in residential areas.
In Padarni Village, garbage collection from residential areas is carried out from Monday to Saturday. There are 14 garbage collectors who work from 16.00 to 19.00 to transport the waste from the residents in the village.
