President Jokowi Talks About Citayam Fashion Week: As Long As It's Positive, Why Should It Be Banned

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) spoke about the phenomenon of teenagers wearing quirky clothes who gathered near Dukuh Atas MRT Station, Jakarta, and were nicknamed Youth Sudirman, Citayam, Bojonggede, and Depok (SCBD).

Jokowi assessed that what teenagers were doing in an activity known as "Citayam Fashion Week" was a positive form of creativity and should be supported as long as it did not violate the rules.

"As long as it's positive, I don't think there's a problem. Don't make it big. Positive things are supported and encouraged as long as they don't violate the rules. It's creative, works like that," said President Jokowi as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, July 23.

Jokowi actually questioned why the creativity of these teenagers should be banned.

"Why should it be banned, as long as it does not violate the rules, does not violate the rules. The principle is there," he said.
