KAPUAS HULU - The Kapuas Hulu and Immigration Police have dispatched 28 non-procedural Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) from Badau on the Indonesia-Malaysia border in Kapuas Hulu Regency, West Kalimantan.
These workers were handed over to the Pontianak Indonesian Migrant Work Protection Agency (BP2MI).
"We together with Immigration dispatched the non-procedural PMI to BP2MI in Pontianak, for further repatriation to their respective regions," said Head of Community Development of the Kapuas Hulu Police Commissioner Salmansyah when releasing the PMI's departure at the Badau Cross-border Post (PLBN), Kapuas Hulu, today.
Salmansyah said that most of the illegal PMIs came from South Sulawesi Province who wanted to work to Malaysia through unofficial channels in Sungai Antu Village, Puring Kencana District, Kapuas Hulu region which is directly adjacent to Malaysia.
According to him, the efforts of non-procedural PMIs who wanted to go to Malaysia without going through official channels were thwarted by members of the Pamtas Task Force in the area.
So that in its handling, the 28 non-procedural PMIs were handed over to the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency in Pontianak.
Among them are toddlers and children. Of the 28 PMIs, several of them have not yet been dispatched because they are still in the process of further investigation.
"In handling this, the Kapuas Hulu Police are also taking legal action against the perpetrators who facilitate non-procedural PMI, currently being handled by the Kapuas Hulu Police Satreskrim," he added.
Regarding the issue of illegal PMI, the Kapuas Hulu Police Department appealed to people who want to work abroad to follow the procedure by completing immigration and employment documents such as passports and work visas.
"The most important thing is if you want to work according to your expertise and if you can work for an official company, you don't want to be tempted by certain parties to end up becoming illegal or non-procedural workers," he reminded.
