KPK Council Aborts Ethics Trial Gegara Lili Pintauli Resigns, Febri Diansyah: It Should Still Be Conducted For Proof

JAKARTA - Former spokesman for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Febri Diansyah said that the cancellation of the ethics trial for the alleged receipt of accommodation and tickets for the Mandalika MotoGP, Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Lili Pintauli Siregar, was wrong.

The trial should still be held to prove the violations committed.

"The KPK Dewas is wrong. The ethics trial for the KPK leader, Lili Pintauli Siregar, who is suspected of gratification related to MotoGP, should still be carried out," said Febri through his Twitter account, @febridiansyah, quoted on Monday, July 11.

Febri said the KPK Supervisory Board must also conduct an ethics trial against Lili because of their authority. Moreover, the former Deputy Chairperson of the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) is suspected of violating ethics while serving as the head of the anti-corruption commission.

"The trial of the code of ethics is of course to prove the violations committed when they were leaders or employees of the KPK," he said.

"So the reason why the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Council mentions the ethics trial was aborted is because Lili resigned before the trial is clearly wrong. Because when the alleged violation occurred she was still the head of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)," continued Febri.

Furthermore, Febri considered the death of the ethics trial to be a bad precedent in the future. Moreover, the KPK Council tends to misunderstand the context and status of KPK personnel when ethical violations occur.

"If the logic of the KPK Supervisory Board is used, it is easy for any perpetrators of violations to escape by retreating when the code of ethics is being tried," he stressed.

Lili Pintauli was reported to the KPK Supervisory Board for allegedly receiving accommodation and tickets for the Mandalika MotoGP from PT Pertamina (Persero). In conducting the investigation, Tumpak et al have asked for information from various parties including the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero).

However, this trial was declared void because the former Deputy Chairperson of the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) resigned from his position. He submitted a letter on June 30 to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

After accepting Lili's resignation, Jokowi then issued Presidential Decree No. 71/P/2022 concerning the Dismissal of the KPK Leaders.
