To Prevent Rob Floods, West Aceh BPBD Builds 700 Meters Of Emergency Embankments Along The Coastline

ACEH - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of West Aceh Regency built a 700-meter emergency embankment along the shoreline, stretching from Pasir and Ujung Kalak Villages, Johan Pahlawan District, West Aceh Regency.

"The construction of this emergency embankment is an effort by the local government to prevent tidal flooding in community settlements," said the Head of BPBD Aceh West Aceh, DR Mukhtaruddin in Meulaboh as reported by Antara, Wednesday, July 6.

He explained that the construction of the emergency embankment was carried out in two ways, namely, first by using a sack filled with sand and then placing it next to the permanent embankment on the beach.

Then another way is by deploying heavy equipment to the shoreline, in order to then build a levee using sand on the beach.

His party also cleaned up one kilometer of waterways in the Ujung Kalak Village area, Meulaboh, in the hope of facilitating waterways if the area was hit by tidal flooding.

Mukhtaruddin hopes that with the construction of the emergency embankment, it is expected to minimize the brunt of tidal flooding in community settlements, especially along the shoreline of Meulaboh, the capital of West Aceh Regency.

"Hopefully with this emergency embankment, it can help the community if at any time the residents' settlements are hit by tidal flooding," Mukhtaruddin added.

In addition, the West Aceh BPBD also installed embankments filled with sand in sacks, to be placed around people's homes to avoid tidal flooding.

He said the construction of the emergency embankment was carried out by BPBD personnel, involving the community, TNI, Polri, RAPI and other volunteers.
