Ambon Residents Must Be Alert, There Are Eight Flood Points And Five Landslides Due To Extreme Weather

AMBON - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Ambon city recorded eight flood points and five landslide points due to high rainfall since Monday July 4.

"Sufficiently high rainfall since Tuesday morning at 08.00 - 12.30 WIT has resulted in several locations being affected by floods and landslides in three sub-districts in Ambon city", said Ambon City BPBD Head, Demy Paays, Tuesday, July 5.

He said that based on temporary data, there were eight flood points including the area of RT 006 RW 001 Nania Village, Teluk Ambon District, RT 12 Lata Village, RT 027/RW 003 Waiheru Village, Kate Hunuth, RT 002/003 Poka Village, Hative Small, Passo Country.

Meanwhile, landslides were caused by heavy rains in the Batu Meja village, RT 003/RW 0073, three points in the Amantelu Village, and Passo State as well as two points of fallen trees covering the road in front of the Unpatti campus and the Air Besar Passo bridge area.

He said the number of families affected by the flood was 31 families with 135 people and 25 houses flooded.

Meanwhile, 11 families were affected by landslides resulting in damaged houses, and 45 people were affected by landslides, infrastructure, or public facilities affected by landslides, namely one soil retaining channel.

Officers have collected data, and also provided assistance in the form of carts, shovels, tarpaulins, and sacks for families to clean the location and anticipate further landslides, he said.

He hoped that Ambon City residents would remain vigilant because disasters could occur anytime or anywhere. After all, the intensity of rainfall is estimated to continue to increase.

BPBD asks people who live on mountain slopes and riverbanks to always be vigilant and pay attention to appeals or information from the government through mass media and social media.

The community is also asked to immediately report to the BPBD through the RT/RW or Village/State and Kelurahan government in the event of a disaster.
