Shin Tae-yong Considers Three Dutch Players For Under-20 World Cup
JAKARTA - The coach of the Indonesian U-19 national team Shin Tae-yong said three Dutch players who had participated in training with his squad were still being considered for strengthening the national team for the 2023 U-20 World Cup. The three Dutch players were Kai Boham, Jim Croque and Max Christoffel.
"At the moment they are still being considered," Shin said in Jakarta, Friday, July 1, quoted from ANTARA.
The three players participated in the training camp for the 2022 AFF U-19 Cup preparation starting on June 20, 2022 in Jakarta and were included in two test matches for the Garuda Nusantara squad against Persija (draw 0-0) and Bhayangkara FC (lost 0-1).
According to Shin, actually they have shown hard work during training and competing with the U-19 national team.
However, Shin did not want to rush to decide that they deserved to be given Indonesian citizenship status so that they could defend the Indonesian U-19 national team next year.
"Because this is preparation for the 2023 U-20 World Cup, we are careful to select players who will be naturalized," said Shin.
Shin Tae-yong also received a question about the joining of prospective naturalized Indonesian player Jordi Amat with Malaysian Super League club Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT).
He did not want to give a clear answer on this matter. “That will be discussed later,” said Shin.
Jordi Amat was announced as a new JDT player at the end of June 2022 and caused pros and cons among Indonesian football lovers.
This happens because Jordi has the potential to fill one slot in the quota of ASEAN foreign players at JDT with players who are still Spanish nationals who have naturalized to become Indonesian citizens.
