Rawit Chili Price Increase Pushes Manado To Experience 0.85 Percent Inflation
MANADO - The increase in the price of cayenne pepper to Rp. 100,000 per kilogram (kg) has pushed Manado City to experience inflation of 0.85 percent.
"The biggest contributor to inflation in June 2022 was cayenne pepper at 0.4257 percent," said North Sulawesi BPS Head Asim Saputra as quoted by Antara, Friday, July 1.
He said that the biggest contributor to deflation was air transportation at 0.0315 percent.
In June 2022, said Asim, Manado City experienced inflation of 0.85 percent due to an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 110.17 in May 2022 to 111.11 in June 2022.
Of the eleven expenditure groups in Manado City, eight expenditure groups experienced an increase in index, namely the food, beverage, and tobacco group by 2.65 percent, and the equipment, tools, and household routine maintenance group by 0.68 percent.
Clothing and footwear group by 0.19 percent, housing, water, electricity, and household fuel groups by 0.18 percent, recreation, sports, and culture group by 0.14 percent
He explained that the health group was 0.10 percent, the personal care and other services group was 0.09 percent and the food and beverage/restaurant supply group was 0.02 percent.
One group experienced a decrease in the index, namely the transportation group by 0.26 percent, while the remaining two groups, namely the information, communication, and financial services group, and the education group tended to stagnate.
Conditions in June 2022 Manado City experienced inflation on a calendar year basis of 2.35 percent and year-on-year inflation of 3.49 percent.

Of the 90 cities monitored by the national CPI, 85 cities experienced inflation and five cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Gunungsitoli City at 2.72 percent and the lowest was in Pontianak City at 0.07 percent.
The highest deflation occurred in Kendari City at 0.61 percent and the lowest was in Tanjung Pandan City at 0.03 percent. Manado City ranks 6th in inflation on the island of Sulawesi and 35th nationally.
