Broken Inflation! June's Note Breaks 4.35 Percent, Higher Than The Government's Target

JAKARTA – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that in June 2021 there was inflation of 4.35 percent year on year. This figure exceeds the target set by the government and Bank Indonesia (BI) by 3 percent plus minus 1 percent.

Head of the BPS, Margo Yuwono said that last month's inflation was dominated by red chili, cayenne pepper, shallots and broiler eggs.

"This is the highest inflation since June 2017 when inflation was 4.37 percent," he said when giving an explanation to the media crew on Friday, July 1.

Meanwhile, inflation on a monthly basis (month to month/mtm) was recorded at 0.61 percent, and inflation on a calendar year basis (January-June 2022) was 3.19 percent.

“The highest inflation was in Gunungsitoli at 2.72 percent and the lowest inflation was in Pontianak with 0.07 percent. Meanwhile, Kendari's highest deflation was minus 0.61 percent and the lowest was in Tanjung Pandang with minus 0.03 percent," he said.

VOI noted that the increase in inflation on a yoy basis has consistently occurred since the beginning of this year. In February inflation was recorded at 2.03 percent, in March with 2.64 percent, and April at 3.47 percent. Meanwhile, in May 2022, inflation is known to be at the level of 3.55 percent.

"This large inflation rate is also largely contributed by volatile commodity prices," said Margo.
