Due To Corruption, The Quality Of Infrastructure In Indonesia Is Considered Very Bad
JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Alexander Marwata, said that the quality of infrastructure in Indonesia is very bad. The problem is the tender process until the process is colored with impudent practices.
"Ladies and gentlemen who come from the regions must have understood how far the quality of our infrastructure is. Very, very, very bad", said Alexander when opening the Smart Politics with Integrity which was attended by the Chairman of the Hanura Party Oesman Sapta Odang (OSO), and his cadres in the Building ACLC KPK, Rasuna Said, South Jakarta, Thursday, June 30.
"Just imagine, if an activity project has a value of 100 in the contract, it is deducted by 10 percent VAT tax, then for the fee that was put at 10 percent, the profit rate is 10 percent, that's a minimum, then requests from various parties, whether the authorities and others 10 percent. 40 percent of it is gone", he continued.
This condition then makes the quality of infrastructure development in various regions to be bad. Not only that, requests for fees like this often take regional heads to the KPK Detention Center.
"And I have confidence that it has been evenly distributed. It has become a common practice", he said.
Not only that, another common corrupt practice is mark-ups or unreasonably raising prices.
Furthermore, Alexander told about his experience as an auditor for the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) for 20 years. He said he often encounters infrastructure projects that do not meet expectations.
"The project, which is said to be road maintenance and repair, has only been carried out for three months, we checked in the field and it's not a mess. They said it had been paved, but what you can see is that small stones have come off the asphalt", he said.

This kind of practice, continued Alexander, should be a concern for all parties, including political parties. Moreover, infrastructure development whose money has been corrupted has an impact on the community's economy.
"So, things like that, ladies and gentlemen, are very, very sad. And of course ladies and gentlemen, if the infrastructure is not good, it will have a wide impact, the community's economy will definitely be disrupted", he concluded.
