Can Detect Sacrifice Without PMK, Hundreds Of "Juleha" Deployed During Eid In Batam
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Batam dispatched hundreds of Halal Slaughterers (Juleha) on Eid al-Adha 1443 Hijri in every sub-district who understands nail-mouth disease (PMK) in livestock.
"There are hundreds of halal butchers from 12 sub-districts in Batam. Usually there are 50 people in one sub-district, 30 people or 20 people, and they are 90 percent of the administrators of the mosque where the sacrificial animal will be slaughtered later," said Batam MUI chairman Luqman Rifa'i in Batam, quoted from Antara, Thursday, June 30.
He explained, the hundreds of halal slaughterers already understood the standard operating procedure (SOP) for selecting sacrificial animals in the midst of the current FMD outbreak.
"Especially with regard to standard operating procedures (SOP), because there have been circulars from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Religion regarding the qurbani procedure during the PMK outbreak," he said.
In the outline of the SOP, he said, choosing a sacrificial animal infected with PMK to be slaughtered according to the MUI fatwa or religious law could be said to be legal as a sacrificial animal as long as it was in the mild category.
"But if the person infected with FMD is severe, for example, his nails have been removed or his mouth is damaged, as if he has salivated excessively or severely, then it is not valid to be used as a sacrificial animal. Likewise, for example, there are animals that are currently affected by PMK but when Eid al-Adha is declared cured, it is declared valid to be used as sacrifices," he said.
In addition to understanding the choice of sacrificial animals to be slaughtered in the midst of the PMK outbreak, he said, the slaughterer must also understand the procedures for slaughtering sacrificial animals in an Islamic and correct manner.
"Because science related to slaughter must be mastered in ways starting from binding, subverting, slaughtering, cutting, skinning to distributing it needs to be studied," he said.
Therefore, he said, this butcher is the key to conveying the procedures for slaughtering sacrificial animals during the PMK outbreak to the public.
"This halal slaughterer is the caretaker, because later they will be the key in the community. Because usually the slaughterer is the one who can provide an understanding of PMK and arrange for Eid al-Adha,” said Luqman Rifa'i.
