Troubled At MU, Sporting Lisbon Tempts Cristiano Ronaldo To Return Home
JAKARTA - Cristiano Ronaldo's former club Sporting Lisbon keeps the door open if their former player wants to return. Moreover, CR7's future at Manchester United is uncertain.
Sporting Director Hugo Viana is currently still ruling out the possibility of Ronaldo returning to his hometown. However, he said his club would not refuse if the former Real Madrid player wanted to return to the Estadio Jose Alvalade.
"I think that [Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Sporting] is impossible. Not now. However, you never know," Viana told Sky Sports, quoted by Marca.
Transfer rumors surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo have continued to roll this summer. He has even been linked with AS Roma, Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, has reportedly moved to prepare for his client's possible exit from Old Trafford. Besides being linked with Roma, the Blues and FC Hollywood, there is a third option for Ronaldo to return to his boyhood club.
However, the Red Devils are reportedly still reluctant to let their star go. The reason is, Ronaldo is really needed as an attack motor in the 2022/2023 season.
"He can decide where he can go, but you never know. He has one more year on his contract and we will see what he decides," said Viana.
Ronaldo made his debut for Sporting Lisbon on 14 August 2002 while the club was still coached by Laszlo Boloni. His debut was when the Portuguese giants competed in the European Champions League against Inter.
At that time Ronaldo was 17 years, six months and nine days. He scored five goals and provided six assists before luring Sir Alex Ferguson and heading to Manchester United in the summer of 2003 for a fee of 19 million Euros.
