Metro Jaya Police Responds To Viral Mothers Asking For Medical Marijuana: Still Banned, Can't Be Used

JAKARTA - A mother, Santi Warastuti, has gone viral on social media, asking that marijuana be legalized for her daughter's medical needs. The Metro Jaya Police, who responded to the viral action of this mother, stated that Indonesia had banned the use of marijuana for any reason.

"Cannabis is still prohibited, marijuana cannot be used", said Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner E. Zulpan, to reporters on Monday, June 27.

In addition, referring to Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, marijuana is included in group one. Its use is strictly prohibited even for medical purposes.

So far, marijuana can only be used for the benefit of the development of science and technology.

On that basis, said Zulpan, the police could not help or grant Santi Warastuti's request. Because the police work under the law.

"If the police work using the law, it is a mandate given by the state. The police are law enforcement officers who carry out law enforcement based on the law", he said.

"If you want to change the law, the authority is not with us", continued Zulpan.

Santi Warastuti suddenly went viral on social media because she carried a sign that read "Please, my daughter needs medical marijuana".

The action was carried out during the Car Free Day (CFD) event in the HI Roundabout area, Jakarta, on Sunday, June 27.

In fact, Santi brought a letter addressed to the judges of the Constitutional Court. Its contents, ask the judge to immediately give a decision on the test application that he has submitted on the Narcotics Law so that it can be used for medical purposes.
