Hundreds Of Same-sex Couples Marry Mass In Mexico City
JAKARTA - Hundreds of same-sex couples held a mass wedding in Mexico City.
The event marked the first mass wedding to be held in the Mexican capital after a similar event was canceled for two years due to the pandemic.
Music groups play traditional songs, such as Mendelssohn's "Wedding March", as couples, some wearing couple outfits, make vows together.
The mass wedding organized by the local government became an economical way for them to get married. A large wedding cake was also distributed.
"Actually, this is something we have been planning for a long time," said Miguel Delgado.
"Because of the pandemic, we couldn't do it, so when the opportunity arose, we decided to take advantage of it," he said.
Mexico City legalized same-sex marriage in 2010. Since then, 26 of the 32 states have followed suit.
The mass wedding usually takes place before the Pride Parade. Thousands of people are expected to take part in the parade on Saturday.
