6 Days Disappeared After Shipwreck In Nongsa Batam Waters, PMI's Body Found In Singapore

BATAM - A body suspected of being an Indonesian migrant worker (PMI) who disappeared after his ship sank in the waters of Nongsa, Batam was found in Singapore.

"Yes, it is true, one victim was found allegedly a PMI victim by the Singapore Police Marine ship and the victim was immediately taken to Singapore for an investigation," said Head of the Tanjung Pinang SAR Office, Slamet Riyadi when confirmed in Batam, Riau Islands, Antara, Wednesday, June 22.

Slamet explained that the information on the discovery of the body was conveyed directly by the Singaporean police to Indonesia, who asked whether they were still searching for PMI's body.

"We are still confirming with BP2MI regarding the names of the victims in the search. So is it true that the victim is in search, or is it another victim," he said.

For now, Slamet said, the body, which is suspected to be one of the seven missing PMIs, is still in Singapore for further investigation.

"The gender is male, later this afternoon we can confirm," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of Upt BP2MI Mangering Sinaga said that his party had not yet received official information regarding the discovery. "But later when there is official information, we will give the news immediately," he said.

The search for the seven missing PMIs in the waters of Nongsa, Batam City has entered its 6th day. A joint team from the TNI, Polri and Basarnas are still searching for the victims who are still missing.
