Polda Metro Starts Investigating Roy Suryo's Uploads About Borobudur Temple Stupa Memes

JAKARTA - Former Minister of Youth and Sports (Mempora) Roy Suryo is reported to have posted a meme about the Borobudur Temple stupa that looks like President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Polda Metro Jaya said the reporting file was being studied.

"Every report will of course be processed. Investigators will study the report," said Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes E. Zulpan to reporters, Tuesday, June 21.

In the process, a team from the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation will handle the reporting. However, Zulpan was reluctant to provide further details regarding the next steps in handling the report, including the time of the examination of Roy Suryo as the reported party.

He only emphasized that the report had been received and would be followed up according to the applicable regulations.

"It is true that the report has been received at the Polda Metro Jaya," said Zulpan.

Roy Suryo was reported to Polda Metro Jaya regarding the meme of the Borobudur Temple stupa that resembles the face of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), on Monday, June 20.

The reason for the report was because Roy Suryo's upload was considered harassing Buddhists. This is because the image of the stupa in the meme has a religious symbol, namely, the Buddha.

Reporting against Roy Suryo at Polda Metro Jaya is registered with number LP/B/3042/VI/2022/SPKT/Polda Metro Jaya, dated June 20, 2022.

In the report, Roy Suryo was suspected of violating Article 45 A (2) in conjunction with Article 28 Paragraph 2 of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning ITE and/or Article 156a of the Criminal Code.
