Jusuf Kalla: This Year Is Romantic, Everyone Is Looking For A Partner For The 2024 Election
JAKARTA - The 10th and 12th Vice Presidents of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla or JK, do not want to be like most people who think that the political temperature this year is starting to heat up. He considers 2022 to be a romantic year ahead of the 2024 General Election.
This was conveyed by JK while attending the National Seminar in the series of the National Working Meeting of the NasDem Party at the Sultan Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday, June 16.
"Many say that this year's politics will be hot. I said no, this is romantic. So if we can imagine this year is romantic, 2023 consolidation, 2024 elections," said JK.
According to him, 2022 will be a romantic year because guerrilla parties are looking for an ideal partner who will both run in the 2024 General Election.
"Just like dating people, everyone looks for a suitable partner, meets the requirements, looks for a partner. That's the political atmosphere. Sometimes it's loud, romantic, in the end the best is chosen," said JK.
"It's not easy to be a romantic year because many things are factors. Couples, parties, electability. This is one," he continued.
In addition, he continued, the high parliamentary and presidential thresholds were also the determining factors in finding the main partner in the coalition.
According to JK, the parliamentary threshold is often a stumbling block for parties because they want to promote cadres, but cannot because the percentage requirement for nominating candidates is hindered.
"The middle-upper party, yes, fulfills the requirements. But what if the electability is high but there is no party? So what about the combination of these two? So it's not the big party that takes the role, but the middle party," he said.
