Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan Doesn't Want To Hurry Up To Eliminate Bulk Migor, What's The Reason?

JAKARTA - Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) stated that his party did not want to rush to remove bulk cooking oil (migor) in the near future.

However, his party will examine the packaging of bulk cooking oil using simple packaging. This is to ensure public health.

Moreover, Zulhas as he is familiarly known, said that now is not the right time to remove bulk cooking oil.

Given the current price of Pangam is very high. According to him, the elimination will be carried out in stages.

"Later on, this bulk (cooking oil) is not ready, it's getting worse again (economic conditions), it's not finished. Gradually, you can't work for 1 day, it's 3 million," he said at Cibubur Market, East Jakarta, Thursday, June 16.

Zulhas assessed that the problem of bulk cooking oil lies in its distribution.

Moreover, the distribution model of bulk cooking oil using jerry cans is easy to leak.

Therefore, he is working on a financing structure to divert bulk cooking oil in packaged form.

This is because simple packaging is estimated to cost an additional 500 IDR.

"I saw that there was simple packing. Now, simple packing is good, right," he said.

On the other hand, the government must also ensure that these additional costs are not borne by traders or retailers.

Considering the merchant's profit will be smaller if additional costs are charged to the merchant or retailer.

"I think this is what I think will be formulated later, we will think about it, we will have a meeting first. I'm not saying it should be deleted, but there must be something better. Try a better business, maybe there's no way out of a simple package," he said.

According to Zulhas, the elimination of bulk cooking oil does not necessarily solve the existing problems.

He considered that the elimination of bulk cooking oil, which was not accompanied by efforts to substitute affordable cooking oil for the community, was feared that it would create a new polemic.

"But the road map must be clear. So simple packaging takes time," he said.

Previously reported, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan revealed that only two countries still use bulk cooking oil.

These countries are Bangladesh and Indonesia.

Therefore, Luhut wants to remove bulk cooking oil and replace it with simple packaging.

It is planned that the abolition will be carried out in stages.

"So we want this bulk we will make simple packaging, step by step," said Luhut at the BPKP office, Jakarta, Wednesday, June 15.

According to Luhut, later the price of simple packaged cooking oil to replace bulk cooking oil will be attempted at a price of Rp. 14,000 per liter.

Luhut believes that the price can be maintained, provided that the supply of raw materials for simple cooking oil is sufficient.

"Market mechanism, if the supply is sufficient, it will go," said Luhut.
