SURABAYA - The Surabaya City Government (Pemkot) prohibits people from smoking in these seven areas. namely health facilities, places for teaching and learning, arenas for children's activities, places of worship, public transportation, workplaces, and public places.
"Supervision of non-smoking areas (KTR) will begin in the fourth week of June 2022. And then it will be carried out twice a month, namely in the second and fourth weeks," said Head of the Surabaya City Health Office, Nanik Sukristina. , in Surabaya, Friday, June 10.
Regarding the policy, Nanik admitted that he had carried out socialization to the community in all health facilities/facilities, OPD, District, Kelurahan, and Educational Institutions.

"If found to be in violation, an individual sanction will be imposed in the form of an administrative fine of Rp. 250 thousand and/or a social work sanction. Meanwhile, the agency/business actor will be given sanctions starting from a written warning, temporary cessation of activities, administrative fines of Rp. 500 thousand to Rp. 50 million, and even revocation of permits. "Hopefully the public understands about this No-Smoking Area," he said.

This regional regulation was later strengthened by the Surabaya Mayor Regulation (Perwali) No. 110 of 2021 concerning Guidelines for the Implementation of the Surabaya City Regulation No. 2 of 2019 concerning the Non-Smoking area. However, the Perwali only came into force in June 2022.
