Knock! DKPP Stops Zubair Mooduto From Being A Member Of Bawaslu Pohuwato Gorontalo Due To Forex Investment
JAKARTA - Zubair S Mooduto, was dismissed from his position as a member of the Bawaslu of Pohuwato Regency, Gorontalo Province. The sanction was imposed on Zubair for using his position to carry out forex (foreign exchange) investments.
The Election Organizing Honorary Council (DKPP) stated that Zubair as a fighter was proven to have used his position to illegally collect public funds of Rp. 1.6 billion by running a forex investment business called Bintang Trader since 2019.
However, the collected funds cannot be returned by the participants because their forex investment business suffers a loss.
The sanctions against Zubair were read out in the trial for reading the verdicts for four cases which were held in the DKPP Main Meeting Room, Wednesday 8 June.
"The accused conducts trading business by collecting funds from the public illegally, it cannot be justified according to law and ethics," said Assembly member Ida Budhiati when reading out the consideration of the decision in the case of alleged violations of the Election Organizer's Code of Ethics Number 22-PKE-DKPP/IV/2022.
Ida said that Zubair's business resulted in the contestants not focusing on carrying out their duties and responsibilities as organizers.
In the trial for reading the verdict, Zubair S Mooduto was not present. The defendant allegedly deliberately avoided the demands of the public, who were victims of illegal trading business practices.
A number of people claiming to be investment victims have visited the Pohuwato Regency Bawaslu Office asking for Zubair to be held accountable. The Chair and Members of the Pohuwato Regency Bawaslu only attended the trial of this case from January to March 2022, Zubair was only present for 14 days.
Apart from being proven to have used his position to illegally raise public funds, the defendant is also currently facing legal proceedings by being reported to the Police because of his Forex investment business.
"The defendant should understand that the position of election organizer is attached to him so that he is able to control himself from actions that can damage the good name of the Bawaslu institution," he continued.
The defendant is proven to have violated Article 12 letter a, Article 15 letter a, letter g, letter h, and Article 16 letter e of DKPP Regulation Number 2 of 2017 concerning the Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Conduct of Election Organizers.
"Identified the witness of Permanent Dismissal to Teradu Zubair S. Mooduto as a Member of the Bawaslu of Pohuwato Regency as of the time this decision was read out," said Chairman of the Assembly Muhammad.
