PSSI: U-19 National Team Will Be Confirmed To Follow The Toulon Tournament In France
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) confirmed that the U-19 National Team will take part in the Toulon Tournament in France from December 2020 to January 2021 in preparation for the 2021 U-19 Asian Cup and the 2021 U-20 World Cup.
"The national team continues to take care of preparations and wants to achieve achievements with the target for the World Cup," said PSSI Chairman Mochamad Iriawan after a limited meeting regarding the holding of the 2021 U-20 World Cup in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Tuesday, October 20.
Currently, the national team is in Croatia to undergo a national training camp since the end of August. In Croatia, the Garuda Muda team also underwent a series of trials.
"The national team will probably return to Indonesia on Wednesday (28/10), we will return to our respective clubs. The original plan was to compete in leagues 1 and 2. The plan was that but the permit had not been issued or was postponed by the police," he said.
Iriawan stated that the U-19 national team's participation in Toulon was also part of the preparation for the nearest tournament, namely the 2020 U-19 Asian Cup.
The biennial tournament was originally held in October 2020 in Uzbekistan but was decided to be postponed. Iriawan said the 2020 U-19 Asian Cup will take place from February 22, 2021.
Meanwhile, the U-20 World Cup is planned to be held in Indonesia on May 20 - June 12, 2021. The government has selected six provinces to host the matches, namely DKI Jakarta, South Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, East Java and Bali.
Six stadiums that have been prepared as venues are Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium (Palembang), Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (Jakarta), Si Jalak Harupat Stadium (Bandung), Manahan Stadium (Solo), Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (Surabaya) and Kapten I Stadium. Wayan Dipta (Bali).
The government has also formed a national committee for the 2021 FIFA U-20 World Cup which is called the INAFOC National Committee (Indonesia FIFA U-2- World Cup Organizing Committee).
