Good News From Hutama Karya: The Accident Rate On The Trans Sumatra Toll Road Drops 40 Percent During Homecoming And Lebaran 2022

JAKARTA - PT Hutama Karya (Persero) has succeeded in reducing the number of accidents during the 2022 Eid homecoming and return traffic by 40 percent on the Trans Sumatra Toll Road in collaboration with the Lampung Police through the Microsleep Operation.

"Hutama Karya initiated the Microsleep Operation at random on toll roads along the JTTS by cooperating with the local regional police in its implementation," said Executive Vice President (EVP) of the Hutama Karya Toll Road Operations & Maintenance Division, Dwi Aryono Bayuaji in a written statement, quoted from Antara. , Saturday 21 May.

According to Dwi, Microsleep is considered the main trigger for accidents on toll roads. Microsleep makes the driver not aware that he has fallen asleep within a few seconds while driving. This happens because the driver is very tired.

"The Microsleep operation was able to significantly reduce accidents. Hutama Karya and the local Police examined several car drivers who were believed to be tired from driving. After that, we would ask them to rest and we would give them a snack to get back in shape," he said.

The community was also very cooperative when the operation was held. When asked to rest and not continue the journey, the driver immediately agreed.

"Because they are aware that safety is the most important thing in this 2022 homecoming and return flow," said Dwi.

Hutama Karya noted that the number of accidents during the Eid homecoming and return flow in 2022 on the Trans Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS) decreased by around 40 percent compared to 2019.

The 2019 data is a reference for comparison because in 2020 and 2021 there will be no homecoming and backflow activities in the JTTS considering the implementation of the Policy for Enforcement of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) and blocking on managed toll roads. In 2019, the number of accidents reached 10 cases. Meanwhile, in the back and forth flow of 2022, the number of accidents decreased to only 4 cases.

According to the Head of Public Relations of the Lampung Police, Kombes Pol. Zahwani Pandra, the success in reducing the number of accidents was due to the collaboration between Hutama Karya as the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT) and the Lampung Police with several other stakeholders.

"This success is the collaboration of all parties, who are members of the 2022 Ketupat Krakatau Operation, which will be carried out from April 28 to May 9, 2022," he said.

During the Lebaran Homecoming yesterday, the Lampung Police also helped prepare several task forces to reduce the number of accidents. One of them is the collaboration between the Directorate of Polantas and the Directorate of Sabhara who also support toll road patrol officers who simultaneously routinely carry out joint patrols to prevent accidents from happening on toll roads.
