Cristiano Ronaldo Et Al 'Officially' Failed To Champions League Next Season After Humiliated Four Goals Without Reply By Brighton
JAKARTA - Manchester United was humiliated 4-0 by Brighton & Hove Albion at Falmer Stadium, Sunday morning GMT+7 (Indonesian Time), with four goals scored by Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Pascal Grob, and Leandro Trossard.
The Premier League website, as quoted by Antara Sunday, May 8, reported that this defeat did not affect Manchester United's position in the Premier League standings. The Red Devils are still in sixth place with 58 points from 37 matches, while Brighton is in 9th place with 47 points from 36 matches.
The Red Devils have certainly failed to get a ticket to the Champions League next season. The reason is, with only one game left, MU is unlikely to shift Arsenal, who is in 4th position with 63 points and still has four games left.
United struggled against Brentford and was overwhelmed in midfield from half-time which Brighton took advantage of to put pressure on them.
In the 15th minute, Brighton scored after Moises Caicedo fired a low shot from outside the penalty area which directed the ball into the bottom right corner of David De Gea's goal.
MU tried to reply. Several times Cristiano Ronaldo's efforts deviated from the goal including in the 21st minute when his shot went sideways from the Brighton goal.
In the 42nd minute, Raphael Varane's mistake almost made the MU goal conceded. The French defender miscontrolled the ball which instead directed the ball towards Welbeck in front of the penalty box, fortunately, the former MU player fired a flying shot over De Gea's goal.
In the second half, the MU goal conceded in the 49th minute after Marc Cucurella increased Brighton's advantage through his left foot kick.
Being left behind by two goals did not make United come back to catch up and then Brighton used it to continue pounding the visitors.
