90th Anniversary, Puan Maharani Says Muhammadiyah Youth Has An Ideological Mandate To Realize Islamic Values

JAKARTA - Chairman of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, congratulated on celebrating Milad to all leaders and cadres of Muhammadiyah Youth throughout Indonesia and hoped that Muhammadiyah Youth would continue to synergize in building the nation.

"Hopefully the spirit of synergy in building the nation which is the jargon for the 90th Anniversary can be conveyed to all corners of the country because the presence of Muhammadiyah Youth in every aspect of nation-building is always awaited", said Puan in a statement received in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, May 3.

On May 2, 2022, to coincide with Eid al-Fitr 1443 H, Muhammadiyah Youth is exactly 90 years old. Puan hopes that the Muhammadiyah Youth at an increasingly mature age can continue to work together to build the nation and state. This is by the jargon of this year's 90th Anniversary.

"The long journey of the Muhammadiyah Youth missionary struggle in inviting goodness is a real contribution to building the nation", said Puan.

Puan said, as the biological child of the progressive Islamic movement founded by KH Ahmad Dahlan, Pemuda Muhammadiyah has an ideological mandate to realize Islamic values that are rahmatan lil 'alamin and are not anti-progress.

"And to achieve all of that requires broad insight, inclusiveness, and vision of statesmanship from the youth in the Muhammadiyah Youth organization", said Puan.

Puan added, that currently, Indonesia is getting a demographic bonus where most of the population is young and productive.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency in 2020, the estimated number of youth (16-30 years) is 64.50 million people, or almost a quarter of the total population of Indonesia.

"This means that youth have a very important role in the development of the country", said Puan while revealing that she had often attended Muhammadiyah Youth events to give speeches because in the organization there was the spirit and spirit of Bung Karno's struggle.

Puan then quoted Soekarno's speech which once stated, "Give me 10 youths, then I will shake the world." She assessed that her grandfather's statement decades ago was still relevant to current conditions.

"Bung Karno's phenomenal scream about ten youths who will shake the world needs to be rethought by the youth of this era", said Puan.
