Indonesian Embassy In Singapore Accompanies Indonesian Migrant Workers Suspected Murderer

BATAM - The Indonesian Embassy in Singapore accompanied the Indonesian Migrant Worker with the initials S (51) who, based on local police investigations, was suspected of committing a crime to take the life of the father of the LHC employer (73).

By Singapore law, suspects in criminal cases are detained for 2x24 hours for interrogation, investigation, and determination of weighting articles.

Reading the initial charges is a legal procedure to strengthen detention, read out the threat of punishment, and wait for further legal mechanisms.

Articles of accusation can still be changed (and or added) at the next trial (second mention).

In the trial, the prosecutor proposed that suspect S be subject to Article 302 Paragraph 1 of the Penal Code with the threat of the death penalty.

Suspect S was also recommended to undergo a psychiatric examination by a psychiatrist and remain in detention until the next scheduled trial.

In the statement, the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore will immediately seek consular access to ensure the rights in question are fulfilled and ensure requests for special assistance in his case.

Singapore is one of the largest PMI recipient countries, with around 140 thousand people.

However, according to statistics, cases that befell Indonesian PMIs in Singapore are only about 1 percent, ranging from labor issues to light and serious crimes.
