Military Vehicles Lindas Homemade Bombs, 10 Somali Soldiers Killed
JAKARTA - A bomb exploded on the side of a road in southern Somalia, Saturday, April 30, local time. A total of 10 government soldiers were declared dead.
This explosion occurred when a convoy of military vehicles carrying soldiers ran over an improvised explosive device. The bomb was planted on the road between Balad and Jowhar districts by the al-Shabab group, Somali National Army Radio (SNA) reported.
"The convoy of military vehicles led by (senior military) Saney Abdulle departing from Mogadishu was heading for Jowhar when the incident occurred a few minutes after midnight", SNA radio reported, as quoted by Antara from Xinhua.
The al-Shabab group claimed responsibility for the latest attack in Somalia.
The al-Qaeda-allied group opposes the ongoing electoral process. They launched a series of attacks, targeting delegates in an attempt to disrupt the exercise.
In January, a spokesman for the Somali government was injured in an explosion at a crossroads by suicide bombers in the capital Mogadishu. Al Shabaab militia was linked to the case.
