Semarang Police Reveals Scams Under The Presence Of Selling Cheap Diapers, Victims Loss Up To Rp1.1 Billion
SEMARANG - Polrestabes Semarang, Central Java, revealed a fraudulent practice of buying and selling cheap baby diapers that cost a number of consumers up to hundreds of millions of rupiah.
Head of Criminal Investigation at the Semarang Polrestabes AKBP Donny Lumbantoruan said a woman with the initials HAW (40) from Puri Anjasmoro, Semarang City was named a suspect in the alleged fraud.
There is also a mode that the perpetrators use, he said, by offering cheap baby diapers to attract potential victims.
Interested victims, he continued, were asked to pay some money before the goods were sent.
AKBP Donny said the perpetrator was known to own a shop called "Oma Baby Shop". "The perpetrators lured their victims with gifts in the form of precious metals for orders above Rp. 100 million," he said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, April 27.
However, he continued, from the orders made from December to January 2022, it turned out that the goods that had been paid for had not been delivered.
"There were seven victims who reported with a total loss of Rp. 1.1 billion," he said.
For his actions, the suspect was charged with Article 378 of the Criminal Code on Fraud or Article 372 of the Criminal Code on Embezzlement.
