EU Invites Europeans To Help Defeat Russia By Walking More, How Come?

JAKARTA - The European Union asks its citizens to reduce traveling by car, and reduce the use of air conditioning to work from home three days a week. This method is considered to reduce the dependence of European countries on Russian energy supplies.

These measures have been prepared by the International Energy Agency. Reporting to the BBC, if all complied, it could save the usual household costs of €450 (£375) per year.

Buying energy from Russia will help support the country's economy so that it can finance the war in Ukraine.

But Europe says it can't find alternative supplies, asking citizens to adjust their lifestyles.

The nine-point plan, titled "Playing My Part", urges residents to reduce driving, use public transportation, or work from home three days a week.

He also urged residents to:

1. Turn off heating in winter and use less air conditioning in summer.

2. Adjust the boiler settings.

3. Use their car more sparingly.

4. Reduce their speed on the highway, by turning off the car air conditioner.

5. Leave their cars at home on Sundays in big cities.

6. Take a short walk or bike ride instead of driving.

7. Use public transportation.

8. Use trains instead of flying.

"Faced with the appalling sight of human suffering that we have seen after Russia invaded Ukraine, the people of Europe want to take action", said Fatih Birol, executive director of the IEA.

“This guide has easy-to-follow steps that can be of little inconvenience on our part but can reduce the flow of money to the Russian military and help put us on the path to a cleaner and more sustainable planet,” they continued.

The IEA calculated that if every citizen followed its recommendations, it could save 220 million barrels of oil every year, enough to fill 120 supertankers. It would also save 17 billion cubic meters of gas, enough to heat nearly 20 million homes.
